Privacy Policy

DENSO IT LABORATORY, INC. (the “Company”) has developed the following Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) about the handling of user information, including personal information about users, in connection with the services (the “Services”) that it offers.

1. User Information Collected and the Method of Collection

  1. The Services do not obtain or collect personal information that is subject to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or information that identifies specific individuals.

  2. When using the Services, a user may give permission to have the Services linked with application functions inside a terminal. In such a case, the following types of information stored by such other permitted applications are used. Such information is used within the application only, and it is never sent to the Company’s server or collected.

    • Information recorded in calendars and schedules
    • Date, time, and location information attached to photographs
    • Information about music, such as pieces and albums replayed, artists, and the date and time such music was replayed
  3. When using the Services, a user may permit the linking of the Services with external services such as social networking services. In such an event, the Company obtains and uses the following types of information from the external services, based on the content for which the user provides consent in his or her permission. Such information is used within the application only, and it is never sent to the Company’s server or collected.

    • User IDs that the user uses when accessing external services
    • Any other information that a user permits the external services to disclose to a contacting party by choosing specific privacy settings for the external services.
  4. When a user uses the Services, the Company may collect information about the status of the user’s access to the Services and the way the Services are used in the Company’s server. Such information includes the following:

    • Operation history of applications
    • Cookies and anonymous IDs
    • Current location information

2. Purpose of Use

  1. User information is used to provide the Services as specified in 2-2. In addition, it may be used for other purposes as specified in 2-3.

  2. Specific ways in which user information is used in offering the Services are as follows:

    1. For the purpose of offering, maintaining, protecting, and improving the functions relating to the Services
    2. For the purpose of providing information about the Services, responding to inquiries relating to the Services, etc.
    3. For the purpose of responding to acts in breach of the Company’s agreement, policies, etc. regarding the Services (the “Agreement, Etc.”)
    4. For the purpose of providing notification of changes made to the Agreement, Etc. regarding the Services
    5. For any other purpose incidental to the purposes described above
  3. Purposes of use other than those described in 2-2 above are as follows:

    1. For creating statistical data relating to the Company’s services that are processed in a format that does not allow identification of individuals
    2. For distributing or displaying the Company’s or a third party’s advertisement(s)
    3. For other marketing activities

    User information items affected:

    • Information recorded in calendars and schedules
    • Date, time, and location information attached to photographs
    • Information about music, such as pieces and albums replayed, artists, and the date and time such music was replayed
    • User IDs that the user uses when accessing external services
    • Information posted on external services that a user permits to be disclosed
    • Operation history of applications
    • Cookies and anonymous IDs
    • Current location information

3. Method of Notifying, Publicizing, and Obtaining Consent, and Method of Requesting Suspension of Use

  1. The Services obtain users’ consent prior to collecting the following type of user information:

    • Current location information
  2. A user may request that the use of all or part of his or her user information be suspended by choosing certain settings for the Services. In such an event, the Company suspends the use of the information promptly in accordance with the rules established by the Company. Suspension of the use of user information thus results in the suspension of the use of the Services, because collection or use of certain user information items is necessary for the Services to be provided.

4. Transmission to External Parties

  1. The Services send the following types of information to the Company-managed server, which is a part of the Services, for the purpose of searching and obtaining images. Such information is never sent beyond the Company-managed server to an external party. Furthermore, the information is first processed into a format that makes personal identification impossible before it is used to search for images.

    • Information recorded in calendars and schedules
    • Information posted on external services that a user permits to be disclosed
  2. The Services use and send current location information to Weather Underground Inc. for the purpose of inquiring about weather information APIs that the Services offer so as to offer weather forecast information at the current location.

5. Disclosure to Third Parties

  1. The Company does not make available to any third party personal information that is part of user information without the prior consent of the user, except when disclosure is permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and/or other regulations. The following situations are exceptions to this provision:

    1. When the Company outsources the handling of all or part of personal information within a scope necessary to achieve the purpose of use
    2. When personal information is made available as the result of business succession, such as a merger
    3. When it is necessary for the Company to cooperate with a national government organization, a regional government, or a party that is entrusted by such a governmental organization to conduct an operation that is sanctioned by law, and obtaining a user’s consent is feared to jeopardize the execution of the operation
    4. Any other situation that is sanctioned by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other regulations

6. Disclosure of Personal Information

  1. When requested by a user to disclose his or her personal information pursuant to the stipulations of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the Company discloses such information to the user without delay after verifying that the request was made by the user himself or herself. (If such personal information does not exist, the Company informs the user to that effect.) However, this provision does not apply in cases in which the Company is not under the obligation to make a disclosure pursuant to the provisions of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other regulations. Please take note that there is a charge of ¥1,000 (including tax) per instance of disclosure of personal information to cover administrative costs.

    Note: The Services do not obtain or collect personal information that is subject to the above-mentioned personal information disclosure requirement.

7. Correcting and Discontinuing the Use of Personal Information

  1. When requested by a user (1) to correct the content of his or her personal information pursuant to the stipulations of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information because it is incorrect, or (2) to discontinue the use of his or her personal information pursuant to the stipulations of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information because it is used beyond the previously publicized scope of use or because it was collected by deception or other wrongful means, the Company verifies that such a request came from the user himself or herself and conducts necessary investigation without delay. Based on the results of the investigation, the Company corrects the content of the personal information or discontinues its use, and notifies the user to such effect. Alternatively, the Company may decide not to make a correction or discontinue the use of the personal information, based on rational grounds, and notifies the user of such decision.

  2. When requested by a user to delete his or her personal information, the Company verifies that the request came from the user himself or herself and deletes the personal information if it determines that the request must be accommodated. The Company then notifies the user of the action taken.

  3. The provisions of the preceding two paragraphs do not apply in cases in which the Company is not obligated to make corrections or deletions under the provisions of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other regulations.

    Note: The Services do not obtain or collect personal information that is subject to the above-mentioned personal information correction, discontinuation, or deletion requirement.

9. Procedures for Revising the Privacy Policy

  1. The Company reviews the way user information is handled from time to time and strives to make continuous improvements. The Company revises the Policy as necessary. Whenever a revision is made, it is announced to users by way of a revision on the Services’ website and in applications. When a revision is of the nature that legally requires user consent, user consent is secured by a method established by the Company.

  2. The revised privacy policy takes effect on the revision date recorded herein.

This Policy shall be executed in the Japanese language. Japanese shall be the governing language and any translation of this Policy into any other language is for convenience of reference only and shall not bind the parties hereto.
